Celebrating World Malaria day 2018 : Ready to beat malaria

World Malaria day aka WMD is an  international event  observed yearly on the 25th of April which shows the worlds effort to combat and control malaria as World Malaria Day, 2018 is tagged Ready to beat malaria. Statistics shows that about 3.3 billion people from 106 countries are at risk of having malaria. With death rate mostly affecting African Children according to a 2012 research (by WHO), other parts of the world also face the challenge like in Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Europe.

Malaria is one of the world oldest and deadliest diseases known to man, it is caused by bites from infected female Anopheles Mosquitoes. Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax are the two species of parasites that causes Malaria in human being.

While Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum) is common and prevalent in Africa, it is responsible for most malaria death cases globally, Plasmodium vivax (P. vivax) cases is more common in countries that are outside Sub-saharan Africa.

SYMPTOMS

Though symptoms may vary from individuals due to factors like age, the immunity the individual has, most common symptoms include fever, headache, Chills which can become serious and may also result to death if not treated.

PEOPLE AT RISK.

  1. Pregnant women.
  2. Young Children who have little to no immunity against malaria.
  3. People who migrate from areas with little to no malaria cases to areas where it is predominant.

WAYS OF PREVENTION.

  1. Usage of Treated Mosquito nets.
  2. Using insecticides.
  3. Getting treated with antimalarial treatments.
  4. Keeping surroundings stagnant water and weed free to prevent breeding.

MALARIA TREATMENT.

Malaria is first-rate treated with artemisinin-based totally mixture therapy (ACT). The parasite P.falciparum has shown resistance to medicines like chloroquine and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP).

 

Remember to Always Prevent, Test then treat malaria.
